What Causes Black Spots To Float In Front Of Your Eyes?

Whenever the jelly like material in the back of your eyes separates from the retina you can suddenly see dark shadows moving in your vision or black clumps that seem to swim by. Over the years the vitreous gel in the back of your eye begins to shrink and become a lot more like water and less like the solid gel it once was.

As the vitreous humor breaks free from its attachment to the retina at the back of the eye, it's common to see long stringy black things in your eye that look like gnats. The intensity of black floaters in your eyes increases when you look at a light object like an iphone screen or ipad.

Circles with visible outlines are one way that some people have interpreted their eye floaters.
